The $28 million project will add 33% more capacity to a portion of the interstate
A $28 million resurfacing project of I-894 between National Avenue and 84th Street in Milwaukee will begin this weekend, and when complete, will add 33% more capacity to that portion of the interstate, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).
The project will add a fourth lane of traffic in both directions between the Hale Interchange and the Zoo Interchange. This project is ancillary and not part of the $1.7 billion Zoo Interchange project, which after five years, will finally be completed this August, according to WisDOT officials.
Waukesha-based Zignego Ready Mix Inc. was awarded the $28 million bid for the project. The first phase will focus on the median area of the interstate, while resurfacing work for the southbound lanes is expected to be complete by late August. The northbound lanes portion should be done by October.
