The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) recently released a draft of the FY 2020-26 Idaho Transportation Investment Program (ITIP), which the agency says is a seven-year "roadmap" for planning and developing transportation projects.
The multimodal transportation program includes projects tackling highways and bridges, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, highway safety, railroad crossing safety, airports, public transportation, transportation planning, and freight.
The projects start in 2020 and go through 2026. Some notable upcoming projects include adding lanes to I-84 in Canyon County in the Southwestern part of the state; SH 48 expansion and pavement preservation from Rigby to Ririe in the Eastern part of the state; Idaho Highway 41 expansion between Post Falls and Rathdrum in North Idaho; and the replacement of the Big Wood River Bridge on Idaho Highway 46 near milepost 113 in Gooding County in South-central Idaho.
From July 2 through Aug. 2, ITD is seeking public comment for the ITIP draft plan, and the agency is encouraging all transportation stakeholders to participate. Public comments will help the department determine if proposed projects meet the department’s three main objectives of improving safety, mobility and economic opportunity.
ITD also is offering an online, interactive map—dubbed the Idaho Transportation Project Map—that allows users to choose specific project categories and learn about work that is planned for a particular area of interest in the state.
Following the review of public comments on the draft and approval by the Idaho Transportation Board, the ITIP will be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Transit Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency.
