Twelve public transit operators representing smaller communities in seven states will urge Congressional leaders to increase infrastructure investment
This week, members of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) will head to Capitol Hill to participate in 13 meetings with the offices of Congressional members to discuss public transportation, appropriations, and dedicated funding.
On Tuesday, June 4, 12 public transit operators representing smaller communities in seven states will urge Congressional leaders to increase infrastructure investment as they discuss the unique challenges and innovations of public transit systems in small and mid-sized communities across the nation.
These leaders of small public transit systems will emphasize how additional federal funding is critical to addressing the issues faced by transit systems in smaller regions. APTA and its members have identified a need for at least $232 billion in critical funding to expand public transportation investments and meet the nation’s growing infrastructure needs.
APTA says additional support from the federal government should focus on improving mobility, modernizing public transportation (which has a state of good repair backlog of $90 billion), and expanding the full reach of public transit systems for communities of all sizes.
