No. 10 - Herb Gray Parkway

Oct. 1, 2015

Highway 401 and Highway 3 merge together to form one of the most traveled highways in Canada in terms of vehicular and truck volumes. Many challenges were encountered on this project in regard to subsurface conditions, which included soft and saturated soils, complex soil stratification and contanimated soils. One innovation to meet this challenge was the use of proprietary reinforced soil system retaining walls instead of cast-in-place reinforced concrete. The project site also sits on one of the most unique and diverse habitats in Ontario.
