Access to the Salt Lake County area is mitigated by a pair of crescent-like mountain ranges, making the I-215 project one of critical importance. The work zone had to handle 125,000 ADT, therefore lane closures and ramp restrictions were carefully coordinated to maintain traffic flow in all lanes during peak travel times. The project limits included six interchanges, including two freeway-to-freeway interchanges (I-15/I-215 S and I-215/S.R. 201). With work being done during one of the worst winters in Utah history, crews laid down 144,980.92 cu yd of concrete, as well as 50,000 tons of 0.5-in. HMA and 16,500 tons of SMA.
