The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is closing down portions of Interstate 10 at Interstate 45 this weekend as crews work on one of the lower freeway bridges in the region.
According to TxDOT, the westbound lanes of I-10 will be closing tonight at 8 P.M., and should reopen by 5 A.M. on Monday, or if the work gets finished, it will be opened sooner. for the closure, westbound traffic will detour northbound on I-45 exiting at North Main and turning around to head south on I-45 back to westbound I-10.
The connection from the northbound I-45 to I-10 and the I-45 HOT lane from Travis Street to I-10 east will be closed. Detours will be displayed on signs, and police will be monitoring traffic in the area.
The closing is needed as crews work on the Hogan Street bridge spanning both I-10 and I-45, where Hogan turns into Crockett Street. The bridge, among the lowest freeway clearances in the region, has been struck numerous times by trucks with too-high loads.
Replacement of the bridge is part of the planned $9.7 billion-plus rebuild of I-45 and the downtown freeway system, though construction north of downtown is not expected to start until 2027 and not finish until 2033, according to recently released schedules for the work.
