June 27, 2024
The construction timeline depends on weather conditions

Construction is starting soon in Austin, Texas on a new pedestrian bridge at Longhorn Dam. The Wishbone Bridge over Lady Bird Lake will be beginning July 1.

The new bridge will have paths for pedestrians and cyclists in three directions over the lake. It will connect Longhorn Shores, Canterbury Park, and a peninsula near Holly Shores. It will form a 76-foot-wide plaza that will feature bike racks, benches, and trees.

According to a news release issued by Austin’s Capital Delivery Services department Longhorn Shores will be closed to the public along with the tunnel from Krieg Fields under Pleasant Valley Road. However, Krieg Fields will still be open during construction.

Beginning on July 8, road and parking closures will take effect. Vehicular traffic heading eastbound on Canterbury Street will be closed. One-way traffic will be open going westbound. Access to Canterbury Park and the parking lot will also be closed.

Beginning July 15, detours to hiking trails and bike trails will begin. The detour is expected to last for 18 months.

The total construction timeline will depend on weather conditions.

The project has a price tag of $25 million.
