MassDOT Begins Interstate Bridge Project

Sept. 17, 2024
Work is scheduled to complete in fall of 2028

Over the weekend, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) began bridge construction on Interstate 90 and Interstate 95.

The on-ramps to I-90 from I-95 and the I-90 off-ramp to I-95 northbound were reduced to one lane, according to MassDOT. The lane reduction will last until the end of the project. It is scheduled to finish in the fall of 2028.

MassDOT said the ramps will be subject to full closures and is supposed to create a safe work zone.

The closure comes as part of a $230 million project to replace eight bridges on the Massachusetts Turnpike, rehabilitate a bridge, and install a new superstructure on two other bridges.

Other improvements include replacing guardrails, widening shoulders, update the lighting and improve seismic resiliency, according to MassDOT.

Drivers traveling through the area should be prepared for delays and slower speeds and are advised to be cautious. Signage and police details will help guide drivers through the work zone.
