The Alabama Department of Transportation has announced the completion of the U.S. 82 widening project in Prattville, a key infrastructure upgrade funded by the Rebuild Alabama Act.
Gov. Kay Ivey headlined a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, joined by state lawmakers and local officials.
“This project will drive economic growth, support local businesses and enhance the quality of life for those who call this area home,” Ivey said. “Infrastructure is the foundation of economic development—without it, progress is not possible.”
The $38 million project expands U.S. 82 to four lanes between U.S. Route 31 and State Route 14, closing a critical gap in the regional traffic corridor. The effort was made possible through state gas tax revenue generated by the Rebuild Alabama Act.
“Making US-82 four lanes was one of my top priorities when I ran for the Senate in 2014, and I am proud to see it completed,” said Sen. Clyde Chambliss. “This project is a major investment in our region, enhancing safety, improving traffic flow and supporting economic growth.”
Officials said the project marks another step in improving mobility and boosting long-term prosperity across Alabama.
