Water levels had risen to a near record level Tuesday morning when authorities ordered evacuations of the area

A dangerous flooding situation unfolded in south-central Texas Tuesday morning over the Llano River, a tributary of the Colorado River, as heavy rain exacerbated ongoing river flooding, prompting evacuations and a bridge collapse.

Local news outlets later reported that the RM 2900 bridge had collapsed near Kingsland due to flooding aroun 9:15 a.m., and pieces of the bridge were seen floating down the river. The river crested at 39.91 ft Tuesday morning, just below the all-time record of 41.5 ft.

The Llano County Office of Emergency Management ordered people living within a quarter mile of the river to evacuate Tuesday morning. The Lower Colorado River Authority closed lakes Travis, Marble Falls, LBJ, Inks and Buchanan effective immediately, until further notice.

The Texas Department of Public Safety told CBS Austin that a body was recovered in Burnet County related to the flooding.

Update 10/17: Officials told CNN on Wednesday that the body of a second victim had been found in one of the areas inundated by the river in Llano County. In relation to the bridge collapse, reports are indicating that no one was on the bridge during the collapse and there have been no reported injuries or fatalities as a result.
