The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be hosting informational workshops on initiatives to improve pedestrian access and safety along five key corridors. This comes as a part of the agency’s Pedestrian Safety Action Plan.
The Pedestrian Safety Action Plan is a key component in MDOT’s new Complete Streets policy. It prioritizes safe and reliable travel on all of Maryland’s roads.
Through the Pedestrian Safety Action Plan, the State Highway Administration identified areas of need and prioritized corridors for pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements.
The corridors are in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.
“The Pedestrian Safety Action Plan is critical in our strategy to provide safe, accessible and equitable transportation options for all customers, no matter how they travel,” said State Highway Administrator Will Pines. “We are excited to host these informational workshops to share our thoughts with residents and get feedback on ways we can improve safety and accessibility throughout our communities.”
MDOT has made safety a top priority following two work zone accidents that made national attention. Construction workers died working on the Baltimore Beltway in 2023 and on the Francis Scott Key Bridge earlier this year.
