The April 2019 issue of Roads & Bridges is our system preservation issue, featuring stories on bridge rehabilitation, pothole repair and pavement aging. Some of the highlights include a story on how the Smith Avenue Bridge in St. Paul, Minn., recently went through a complete replacement of its original concrete deck. Plus, Editorial Director Bill Wilson takes a look at the state of the I-80 bridge in Joliet, Ill., which is considered to be in critical condition, but will not see repairs until later in the spring. Other features in the April issue cover how a branch of the armed services may have solved problems with pothole repair, while another takes note of the Michigan DOT's work with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones) in an effort to improve bridge inspections.
