Alabama Infrastructure Bill Moves Forward

July 30, 2024
Funding would go to upgrade roads and bridges in the state

Alabama aims to allocate over $80 million to modernize and upgrade transportation infrastructure throughout the state.

“This appropriations bill fulfills that promise once again, delivering major wins for needed transportation infrastructure improvements across Alabama,” said U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.

More than $30 million has been secured to support road and bridge projects. This funding includes $20 million to enable the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to improve and widen Alabama State Route 167.

Morgan County will see over $5 million for an inland intermodal container transfer facility. This funding will facilitate smoother interstate commerce. Funding was also secured to support ongoing riverbank stabilization and erosion control efforts in Selma.

Another $13 million will go to airports across the state to upgrade their infrastructure.

Sen. Britt was looking for $100 million for the Appalachian Development Highway System (ADHS). Alabama has the most uncompleted miles remaining of any state in the system. They are looking to receive approximately $30 million out of the total ADHS appropriation.

Now the bill will be moved to the full Senate for consideration.
