The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) awarded $1.3 million in Local Roads Improvement Program grants to four projects in Door County.
The Local Roads Improvement Program is granted every two years and provides funds to help local governments improve county highways, town roads and city and village streets. The program pays up to 50% of total eligible costs for discretionary projects and up to 90% for supplemental projects.
The road projects were four of 1,003 that were given funding. WisDOT spread approximately $174 million to cities, towns and counties across the state.
Over 40 cities and villages in the state were awarded a total of approximately $27 million from the supplemental street improvement fund, with all but one expected to cover 50% of the costs. Twenty-six cities and villages were awarded a total of $8.67 million in discretionary awards, most of them for 50% of costs.
Over 70 counties received supplemental awards totaling approximately $35.6 million for projects covering between 5.5% and 90% of the costs while 45 counties received discretionary awards totaling over $12 million.
