West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced 36 grant awards totaling $13.9 through two programs in the state will give a funding boost to multiple projects.
The two programs, Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails Program, will help support towns, cities and counties with construction, maintenance and development. It is administered by the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH).
The funding will help develop and enhance sidewalks, lighting, walking paths, rail trails and more for projects across the Mountain State.
The Recreational Trails Program grants will fund the construction and maintenance of approximately 300 miles of trails across West Virginia’s travel regions.
The counties receiving funding are Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer, Summers, McDowell, and Nicholas counties.
Some of the Transportation Alternatives projects include:
- Fayetteville 2nd Avenue Pedestrian Bridge Project: $100,000 will go to the design of a pedestrian bridge over County Route 16 at the intersection of 2nd Avenue in Fayetteville.
- Oak Hill Virginia Street Sidewalks: $897,000 will go to the construction of approximately 2,738 Linear Feet of sidewalk on Virginia Street along Route 61 in the City of Oak Hill.
- Lewisburg Washington Street and Court Street Sidewalk Improvements: $75,000 will go to the design of sidewalk improvements at the corner of Washington Street and Court Street in the City of Lewisburg.
