Upcoming work to U.S. Highway 169 in Minnesota is set to cause several closures over the weekend as construction season ramps up.
Crews will close heavily used Highway 169 in both directions between Interstate 394 in Golden Valley and I-94 in Maple Grove, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT). The closure starts at 10 p.m. Friday and will last until 5 a.m. Monday.
Recommended detours include I-394, I-494 and I-94.
According to MnDOT's website, the construction is in concert with rebuilding the 63rd Avenue bridge over Highway 169.
Crews closed the bridge over Hwy 169 in Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove, in April as part of the replacement to the bridge. The current bridge was built in 1968 and its condition has deteriorated to a point where it needs to be fully replaced.
Summary of work to the bridge:
- Replace 63rd Ave. bridge over Hwy 169.
- Extend acceleration lanes on Hwy 169.
- Construct a multi-use trail between Mendelssohn Ave. and Magda Dr.
- ADA improvements.
- Signing replacement at the exits to EB I-94 and EB I-694.
The bridge is not scheduled to reopen until October.
A bit further north and east, Highway 65 will also be under construction south of Highway 10 in Blaine. Crews will reduce traffic on Central Ave. to a single lane in each direction and shut down the ramp from eastbound Highway 10 to northbound Highway 65. The ramp from westbound County Road 10 to southbound Highway 65 also will close and motorists will be advised to find an alternate route.
The closures begin Friday at 10 p.m. and end at 5 a.m. Monday in time for the morning commute.
MnDOT says the weekend's closures are to replace culverts under Highway 65, part of a larger project to repair, resurface and replace bridges on one of the north metro's main arteries.
