On Sunday, crews began working on two sets of bridges on the West Virginia Turnpike, according to the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT).
The Skitter Creek bridges and the Cabin Creek bridges will be undergoing deck replacements.
“We go in as part of our preventative maintenance. We perform inspections annually on every single bridge,” said Jeff Miller, executive director of the West Virginia Parkways Authority.
The work is part of the Parkway Authority’s Accelerated Bridge Deck Replacement Program, which helps the work get done faster.
“It costs a little bit more money, but at the end of the day, the patrons of the turnpike, in a much quicker time period, can have the full use of the road open back up to them,” Miller said.
The Skitter Creek bridge is expected to be completed by Oct. 18, and the Cabin Creek construction is expected to be completed by Oct. 28.
