The Missouri Department of Transportation has evaluated, rated and short-listed three teams from whom it received Statements of Qualifications to compete for the contract to replace more than 550 Missouri bridges.

“We are very pleased that the Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program will proceed with three qualified teams. The teams include companies with a blend of strong, local, national and international reputations and bring considerable design-build experience to the project,” said MoDOT Director Pete Rahn. “We look forward to working through the procurement process in the coming months to select the best team to replace 554 bridges at the best value for the state of Missouri.”

Forming the list of teams are the Missouri Bridge Builders, which includes Parsons Transportation Group, KTU Constructors, led by Kiewit Western Co. and HNTB Corp., and the Bridges Across Missouri Team.

MoDOT will issue a final version of the Draft Request for Proposal on Dec. 16. The three teams will use this information to prepare their plans for how they will approach completion of the project. The contractor should be selected in May 2009 and construction could start soon after.

MoDOT estimates the cost of design and construction for all 802 bridges to be about $700 million. The department will sell bonds to finance the project, and will repay them using about one-third of its annual federal bridge funds—about $50 million per year.
