The three-year, $64 million I-475 reconstruction project in West Toledo is scheduled to begin July 26 and is expected to create long-term traffic obstructions.

Drivers entering eastbound I-475 at interchanges east of Secor Road will be most affected. As the eastbound right lane is rebuilt and an additional lane and retaining walls are constructed, the eastbound entrance ramps at Monroe Street, Douglas Road and Upton/Central Avenues will be closed due to construction to widen the freeway between Rushland Avenue and I-75, Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) officials told The Blade.

“We’re going to keep the Douglas ramps open as long as we can, but they will need to close at some point,” Mike Gramza, ODOT’s district construction engineer in Bowling Green, told The Blade.

Starting this late fall, the disruptions will last around a year.

ODOT officials expect major work on I-475 to be done by the end of the 2012 construction season with the final paving and touch-ups finished in the spring of 2013.
