ALK Technologies responds to New Jersey toll rate increases

Dec. 10, 2008

ALK Technologies Inc. announced Dec. 10 that it has responded to the recent 40% toll increase on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway. Version 22 of ALK’s PC*MILER|Tolls and PC*MILER Web Services have been updated to reflect these increases, which took effect on Dec. 1, 2008. The 40% increase is part of a capital plan that includes funding a mass-transit tunnel connecting New Jersey and New York. The increase is the first of two that were approved in October 2008 by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. The next fare increase is expected in 2012.

ALK’s PC*MILER|Tolls 22 includes truck-specific toll costs by vehicle weight and axle count. Exact toll costs are calculated based on the departure location, vehicle dimension, route preference, type of toll (cash or discount program) and destination. Included in the purchase of PC*MILER|Tolls are four quarterly toll data updates providing the latest changes in nationwide U.S. and Canadian toll costs. For a limited time, a single-user license of PC*MILER|Tolls is included in the purchase of PC*MILER 22 at no additional charge.

“In addition to the standard PC*MILER|Tolls quarterly updates, ALK released this critical interim update to quickly address this 40% rate increase,” said Kara Jo Witkowski, senior product marketing manager, PC*MILER Solutions. “This significant toll increase has a tremendous impact on business, especially as the economy weakens. ALK remains committed to working closely with toll authorities in the U.S. and Canada to provide our users with the latest changes, helping them to better manage operating costs.”
