The 3,570-mile Appalachian Development Highway System is nearing completion,
and it could mark the start of a more stable economy for one of the most
poverty-stricken regions in the U.S.
A study, conducted by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and released
on June 5, revealed that the road network could provide tens of thousands of
jobs and generate billion of dollars. It also will improve travel times and
help link the 13-state region to a more global trade network.
