In a move to strengthen collaboration between transportation and homeland security in New Mexico, a state DOT official who also heads a state security task force will now become chief of staff to the state's director of homeland security.

Executive Director David Albright of the New Mexico Security Task Force, who is chief of the New Mexico Department of Transportation's research bureau, will assume the new duties. The collaborative agreement was signed Feb. 6 by Brigadier General Annette Sobel and New Mexico DOT Cabinet Secretary Rhonda Faught.

The newly linked agencies described Albright's new role as "a natural extension of the transportation security research of David Albright, supported by both the Department of Transportation and the Office of Homeland Security." His new role will let "a novel, interdisciplinary approach" to infrastructure protection to be developed.

The departments will release the Family Emergency Preparedness Guide in March, which will be sent to every state employee and be available to state residents.
