Contracts awarded by Ariz. DOT

Work to improve the Beeline Highway (SR 87) north of Fountain Hills and also add quieter rubberized asphalt to more sections of Phoenix area freeways were among several projects approved by the State Transportation Board recently.

The board, which held its monthly meeting in the Navajo Nation community of Chinle, awarded contracts for the following ADOT projects:

• A $10.8 million contract awarded to FNF Construction Inc., Tempe, to add rubberized asphalt along 24 additional miles of Phoenix-area freeways. Paving work is expected to start by late this summer.
• A $2.9 million contract awarded to R.E. Monks Construction Co., Fountain Hills, to improve a 1.8-mile section of the Beeline Highway (SR 87) into a four-lane divided highway. Work will start in July and is expected to be completed in early 2005.  
• An $11.8 million contract awarded to Sundt Construction Inc., Phoenix, to replace the Interstate 40 bridges over the Rio de Flag Wash in the Flagstaff area. The project will result in new twin bridges and some roadway reconstruction on a new alignment. The project is expected to start in June and be completed in the fall of 2005.  
• A $1.8 million contract awarded to Haydon Building Corp., Phoenix, to construct an eastbound truck escape ramp and other improvements along US 60, in the Salt River Canyon approximately 38 miles northeast of Globe.  
• A $1.1 million contract awarded to Royden Construction Co., Phoenix, to replace the Interstate 8 bridge deck at the interchange with US 95 in Yuma. The project will start this summer and is expected to take four months to complete.  
• A $194,000 contract awarded to Tanner Companies Inc., Yuma, to construct a right-turn lane and install new traffic signal equipment, streetlights, signing and other improvements at the intersection of SB8 4th Avenue and 24th Street in Yuma. The project will start this summer and is expected to take five months to complete.  
• A $790,000 contract awarded to Granite Construction Co., Watsonville, Calif., to replace a layer of the existing pavement on a 10-mile stretch of State Route 80 between Double Adobe Road and Cochise Junior College south of Bisbee. Crews will add a rubberized asphalt surface to the highway. The work will start this summer and is expected to take two months to complete.
