The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA) has selected a team led by V3 to provide corridor-wide project management services for the I-355 (North-South Tollway) south extension. The project is a key component of the Tollway’s $5.3 billion Congestion Relief Plan – Open Roads for a Faster Future.
I-355 will be extended approximately 12 miles, from its current terminus at I-55, south to I-80. The project includes the construction of a multi-lane urban expressway with a major interchange at I-80 and I-55 and a long-span bridge over the Des Plaines River Valley. Full interchanges are proposed at 127th Street, Archer Avenue, 159th Street and US Route 6. Open-road tolling will be constructed in addition to retaining walls, noise barrier walls and cross-street bridges. The overall project cost is estimated at $730 million with construction completion scheduled for Dec. of 2007.
The V3 team will provide both design and construction management services. The design management phase includes coordinating and overseeing the work of several design firms as they incorporate current traffic projections, new design standards and environmental impacts. The construction phase responsibilities include corridor-wide coordination, project control – such as scheduling, cost control and web-based document control – and communications.
