VDOT has dramatically improved its on-time and on-budget performance in the last four years.

The agency completed 75% of its construction contracts on time and 78% within budget for fiscal year 2005, which ended July 1. That compared to 20% on time and 51% within-budget performance in fiscal year 2001.

In a major effort to conduct business in the public eye, VDOT began releasing quarterly reports and launched its Project Dashboard in 2003. The Dashboard is an online system that provides the latest status on construction projects. It was expanded in 2005 to include the daily status of construction, engineering, maintenance and operations, safety, environmental compliance and finance.
