Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback has proposed diverting $200 million in highway funding to the state’s general fund, according to an Associated Press report in the Lawrence Journal-World. The plan was part of his proposed budget for the next fiscal year.
Instead of being used to build and maintain roads and bridges, the money could fund public schools, social services and other programs.
The diversion would be a one-time transfer, said Landon Fulmer, the governor’s policy director.
