The National Asphalt Pavement Association, the Federal Highway Administration and the American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials, in cooperation with the Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana, are sponsoring a National Workshop on Materials and Energy Conservation for Hot-Mix Asphalt. The workshop will be held at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in Indianapolis, Nov. 1-2.

The 1 ½-day workshop will focus on materials and energy issues affecting the production and economics of hot-mix asphalt (HMA). Coping with the current reality of availability and cost of materials and energy is vital for ensuring the viability of our national infrastructure. Charles Potts, CEO of Heritage Construction and Materials and a nationally known leader in asphalt recycling issues, will provide the keynote address.

The first half-day session will feature a discussion of recycling practices for HMA and how to increase the use of this resource through proper evaluation, mix design and production practices. The second session will emphasize the importance of good energy conservation and wise decisions in fuel selection and management of the HMA plant. The final session will be a look at mix type selection and design practices that make the most efficient use of available materials. Speakers will include agency, academic and industry personnel. A detailed program will be available shortly.

Contractors, material suppliers, agency material specification writers, academics and consulting engineers should attend. For more information and online registration, visit www.hotmix.org .
