The Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (WASHTO) installed its new officers for the 2004-05 term. They are:
* President, Tom Norton, executive director of the Colorado Department of Transportation;
* Vice President, David Spryncyznatyk, director, North Dakota Department of Transportation; and
* Secretary/Treasurer, Margaret Catlin, deputy executive director of the Colorado Department of Transportation.
WASHTO passed the following resolutions:
* Maintaining a strong state role and limiting regulation in implementation of the Federal Lands Highway Program Under TEA-21;
* Backing a need for a joint study of trade flow movement along corridors in WASHTO states;
* Promoting flexibility and implementation of environmental and planning rules and regulations for transportation projects and facilities;
* Supporting exclusion of the Interstate Highway System from Historic Preservation Requirements; and
* Adopting the sixth edition of the Guide for Uniform Regulations Governing Truck Size and Weight among the WASHTO states.
