Political analysts Ed Rollins and Bob Bechtel and Dr. Beck Weathers, survivor of a Mount Everest climbing disaster that took eight lives, will be among featured speakers at the American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Sept. 16-21.
Rollins, who has counseled GOP candidates including seven American presidents, and Democratic strategist Bob Bechtel will debate the current U.S. political scene in a session on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the meeting.
Weathers, a Texas surgeon who sustained frostbite injuries including the loss of one hand in a 1996 storm that killed eight members of a climbing party of 30, will speak during the Monday, Sept. 20, general session about identifying priorities and rebuilding a life under challenging conditions.
Also slated to speak at the Annual Meeting are U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta, Federal Highway Administrator Mary Peters, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, AASHTO President John Njord and Jean-Francois Poupinel, President of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association.
In keeping with longtime practice, the Annual Meeting will be immediately preceded by a meeting at the same location of AASHTO's Standing Committee on Highways and several of its subcommittees.
