On Thursday, the Biden Administration announced $40 million in grants for infrastructure projects in Georgia. This funding comes from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).
This round of funding totals over $1 billion for the Safe Streets and Roads for All program.
“Through new funding programs like Safe Streets and Roads for All, the Biden-Harris Administration is helping communities of all sizes make their roadways safer for everyone who uses them,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in a press release.
Atlanta will receive $10 million for a new pedestrian and bike bridge over the intersection of Lenox Road and Georgia State Route 400 in Buckhead. Over 1,000 crashes have occurred at this intersection, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).
Savannah will receive approximately $10 million to improve safety on 37th Street. The area has seen a rise in crashes since 2020 and is one of the city’s highest risk roadways.
Carrollton will receive over $9 million to create a half mile stretch of a Complete Streets system on Maple Street. This will create a safer corridor for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Macon-Bibb County will receive over $5.5 million to improve Gray Highway and East Macon Loop. One new mile of sidewalks will be constructed on Gray Highway and three miles of multi-use paths will be constructed along the side streets Old Clinton Road and Boulevard.
