Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board selects LAN as part of construction management team for Caltrain improvements
May 6, 2019—The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, the governing body for the Caltrain commuter rail transit service between San Francisco, San Jose and Gilroy, has selected civil engineering firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) as part of the MNS Engineers On-Call Construction Management team for Caltrain infrastructure improvements. Caltrain serves 32 stations along the 77-mile corridor, running approximately 90 weekday trains, including baby bullet, limited, and local trains. As part of Caltrain’s modernization effort, the Joint Powers Board is implementing a capital program consisting of a series of construction projects. The capital program will support Caltrain’s ultimate goal of providing electrified service from San Francisco to Gilroy. Some of the projects under the capital program include grade separations (raising the tracks and slightly lowering the road), station upgrades, bridge replacements, crossings improvements, and other infrastructure along the corridor. Over the next five years, LAN will serve as a sub-consultant to MNS Engineers on these projects. As part of the MNS Engineers team, LAN will provide resident construction managers, constructability reviews, quality assurance, and construction observation services.
Takeuchi announces Ron Holmes as warehouse operations manager

Based out of Takeuchi-U.S. headquarters in Pendergrass, Georgia, Mr. Holmes’ main responsibilities include providing materials, equipment, and supplies by directing receiving, warehousing, and distribution services, in addition to supervising staff. Mr. Holmes brings over 10 years of e-commerce and operations leadership to this brand-new position within the company. In Mr. Holmes’ previous position he served as the department manager where he oversaw 80 associates and managed daily operations of direct-to-customer outbound shipments. He has a Bachelor of Science in Management from the National Louis University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Terex Bid-Well service school class of 2019 get first preview of new 3600RC paver
May 7, 2019—More than 60 paver operators from across the U.S. gathered for specialized training as well as for the unveiling of the newest Terex Bid-Well Remote Control paver (model 3600RC) at Terex Bid-Well’s annual service school, which took place last month at its facility in Canton, South Dakota. The annual service school, held over two days, was hosted by the experienced Terex Bid-Well Service Department. The first day consisted of classroom topics covering components, configuration, calibration and proper use of Terex Bid-Well paving equipment. Day two gave students the opportunity to have hands-on training, being involved in an actual concrete pour along with Terex Bid-Well’s Service Technicians, who shared their experience and knowledge with the operators, showing them proper technique, how to achieve a uniform and consistent finish, as well as time-saving tips and tricks to get the most out of their Terex Bid-Well paving equipment.
Students train at GOMACO University during downtime
May 2, 2019—Some 638 concrete paving students travelled to Ida Grove, Iowa, for the 2019 school year at GOMACO University to learn more about their GOMACO equipment, G+ controls, 3-D machine guidance systems, and concrete mix design. GOMACO University provides a unique learning experience for their students with both classroom and hands-on in the shop learning opportunities. Classes are led by university instructors with assistance from GOMACO’s paving experts in the service department, 3-D machine controls, and concrete mix design expert, Dr. Michael Ayers. GOMACO University classes run each year from January through April. Each course covers the controls, setup, operation, maintenance, and diagnostics of the specific GOMACO machine. Dr. Ayers returned to the University’s classroom to teach about his expertise on concrete mix designs. His course focused on the basics of concrete mix designs, along with more advanced topics like cement types and application, aggregates, admixtures, mix optimization for paving applications and troubleshooting. GOMACO’s 3-D team of machine control experts were in the classroom and the shop teaching students about the latest developments in 3-D paving. Instructors from Topcon, Leica Geosystems and Trimble were also teaching in the 3-D courses.
