WINTER MAINTENANCE: Caltrans to prepare S.R. 18 for winter throughout next month

Sept. 27, 2017

The highway that runs through San Bernardino County will be closed on weekdays in October

Throughout the month of October, S.R. 18 in southern California will be closed between Snow Valley Mountain Resort and Big Bear Dam in San Bernardino County in preparation for winter.

The area known as the Arctic Circle will be closed to traffic Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Oct. 2-26. No work will take place during the weekends.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) performs routine maintenance in preparation for winter in the area. Work will include slope scaling, turnout clearance, drain cleaning, sign repair and replacement, guardrail repair and other related work.

Motorists can use S.R. 38 from the Redlands area or S.R. 18 from the high desert to reach Big Bear Valley during October when S.R. 18 on the front side is closed.
