The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) is preparing for Hurricane Lee to make landfall as early as this Saturday.
As the department prepares state roads and bridges, Director of Communications Paul Merrill said MaineDOT will be ready to respond.
"Our crews are ready. We're standing by. We've coordinated with the Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). They know we're there for whatever help they might need," Merrill said to Fox 22. "We gassed up the generators. We sharpened the chainsaws. We have crews working and on Friday, Saturday and potentially Sunday, and we're going to be ready for whatever the storm throws our way."
MaineDOT expects the storm to have statewide implications.
Merrill said crews will be stationed at Emergency Centers in Augusta and will be working alongside MEMA to respond to any reported emergencies.
MaineDOT will continue monitoring weather reports and with crews working 24/7 throughout the weekend, according to Merrill.
