West Virginia Awards Contracts to Paving Projects

Sept. 5, 2024
The projects focus on interstates throughout the state

On Wednesday, the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) awarded over two dozen construction projects throughout the state. Over $30 million in funding is going to two projects in Wood County.

Kelly Paving Inc. was awarded a contract for over $18 million to mill and repave a 6.5-mile section of Interstate 77 from Mineral Wells to U.S. Route 50 near Parkersburg.

West Virginia Paving was awarded a $11.2 million contract to mill and repave Interstate 79 from Big Chimney to Frame Road.

“These projects are important improvements to Interstate routes and will greatly improve the surface conditions in those areas,” said Joe Pack, P.E., WVDOH Chief Engineer of Operations. “Our Interstate routes are our most highly traveled roads, and it is imperative they be in the best condition possible.”

Bid-letting was conducted last month, according to a news release from WVDOH.

Factors such as engineer estimates, project needs and funding sources are all factors in the bid-letting process, according to state officials.
