North Carolina Intersection Closes for Roundabout Construction

Sept. 19, 2024
Work is expected to finish next summer

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will be closing off the intersection of North Carolina Highway 710 and Deep Branch Road in Robeson County for roundabout construction.

The closure begins Sept. 23 and is expected to last until Nov. 22.

Crews will remove the existing traffic signal and some of the asphalt. They also plan to grade, pave and install concrete curbs, and place a new culvert pipe underneath the highway.

NCDOT is urging drivers to stay alert and look out for crews and equipment when driving through the area.

Detours will send drivers to North Carolina Highway 711, Redmond Road, Deep Branch Road, Three Bridges Road and U.S. Highway 74.

Construction on the roundabout began in July and is expected to be completed by next summer.

Over the years, roundabouts have increased in popularity in Europe. However, many American cities are still slow to adapt this infrastructure update, despite how it improves safety.
