Reconstruction on Minnesota State Highway 56 is completed in LeRoy, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).
Crews will complete adding the final paving layer in spring of 2025. Roads have been marked with temporary striping and will provide the final striping after paving is done next year.
The striping will allow the pavement to settle through the winter and spring prior to final topping of the road.
Work on Highway 56 began in April. MnDOT said that the Mower County Road 12, Highway 56 and Main Street East intersection was reconfigured to improve safety by reducing vehicle speeds while maintaining traffic flow.
A cul-de-sac was constructed west of Mower County Road 12. A buffer zone was created between traffic and parking from Mather Street to Everett Street for biking.
A wider school parking zone was created at Mower County Road 14, improving crosswalk safety. Aging storm water, sanitary sewer and water main utilities underneath Highway 56 were replaced.
Sidewalks, curbs and gutters have been replaced. Lastly, water mains were extended past Ada Street.
Traffic began flowing normally through the city on Monday afternoon after the final two blocks were completed.
