ACI, PTI Release New Joint Code for Post-Tensioned Concrete

April 23, 2025
Standard applies to building and nonbuilding structures

The American Concrete Institute (ACI), in collaboration with the Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI), has released a new joint standard designed to enhance the safety, reliability and performance of post-tensioned concrete structures.

ACI/PTI CODE-320-25: Post-Tensioned Structural Concrete—Code Requirements and Commentary provides minimum requirements for the materials, design and detailing of post-tensioned structural concrete.

The code applies to both building and certain nonbuilding structures, covering systems that use bonded and unbonded tendons.

Developed through a rigorous consensus process by the joint ACI/PTI Committee 320, the code is tailored to meet the evolving needs of engineers, contractors and industry professionals. It reflects the latest advancements in post-tensioning practices while maintaining a format consistent with ACI 318, allowing for a smoother transition and easier implementation by users already familiar with ACI codes.

“This code represents a significant step for the post-tensioning industry,” said Tim Christle, EVP of PTI, in a statement. “It focuses specifically on post-tensioned structural concrete while aligning with the trusted structure of ACI 318, helping professionals adopt it with confidence.”

The PTI Technical Advisory Board’s Code Task Group played a pivotal role in shaping the content and ensuring the commentary reflects real-world applications and best practices.

The digital edition is now available for download via the ACI Store and PTI Bookstore. The release supports professionals at all stages of a project—from design and planning to construction and inspection.
