Crews in Southwest Washington are launching a new wave of highway maintenance projects aimed at improving safety and driving conditions throughout the region.
Beginning Monday, Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) maintenance crews will begin work in Clark, Cowlitz, Klickitat, Lewis, Pacific, Skamania and Wahkiakum counties.
Projects will include pothole patching, guardrail and lighting repairs, sign replacements, lane striping and litter removal.
With drier spring and summer weather ahead, crews are taking advantage of the conditions to address road damage caused by winter storms, crashes and general wear and tear.
“There’s never a good time to close a lane or slow down traffic,” said Brad Clark, WSDOT maintenance manager, in a statement. “But safety is our top priority. This work helps keep travelers safe by improving the roads. We appreciate everyone’s patience while we complete this work.”
WSDOT said drivers should expect daytime lane closures and slower speeds, particularly on busy corridors such as Interstate 5, Interstate 205, State Route 14 and State Route 500.
WSDOT plans to limit disruptions and will provide advance notice of scheduled work.
Motorists are encouraged to stay alert in work zones and check wsdot.com/traffic for real-time travel updates.
