Illinois Construction Worker Hit by Car

Police claim it was intentional

A construction worker with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) was hit by a car and remains in the hospital. The incident was intentional, according to police. 

Around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts and the Marengo Police Department responded to a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at West Grant Highway and Park Drive. 

Rescue teams arrived at the scene to see a single-vehicle crash involving a construction worker near the intersection. 

The worker was transported to a hospital with no life-threatening injuries. 

According to the Lake and McHenry County Scanner, the worker who was hit was a flagger in the work zone. The worker could not stand after the collision. 

The driver was uninjured. She was transported to a hospital for a psychological evaluation. 

Grant Highway, where the worker was struck, was closed in both directions for 30 minutes. 

According to police, the investigation is active, and the case is being reviewed by the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office. 

Charges against the driver are pending.
