UDOT Reduces Flood Related Traffic

Closed roadways caused backups and delays

Heavy rain and flooding caused multiple delays on Utah’s roadways, and now the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking to prevent that from happening again.

Storms began just after 3 p.m., leading to multiple crashes on the highways. Some drivers experienced delays of over an hour on southbound Interstate 15. UDOT warned drivers to slow down and keep an eye out for standing water.

Lanes were closed on Interstate 80 westbound in Parleys Canyon due to high water and crashes.

“You’re going to see that type of congestion and backups when you see this type of weather,” said UDOT spokesperson John Gleason in an interview with KUTV 2News.

UDOT is planning to provide more routes to Utah County to ease congestion, according to Gleason.

“We have several projects that are actually going to be focusing on Utah County because it is such an area of growth,” Gleason said.

One project is the Mountain View Corridor expansion on the west side of the valley. It will take place over the next ten years and aims to ease traffic in the area.
