The American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) recently announced its 2019 National Awards of Excellence winners, which included Roads & Bridges earning a Gold National Azbee Award in the Print category for its coverage of the Florida International University (FIU) bridge collapse in the April 2018 issue.
“This is a great honor, and our strong editorial staff deserves all the credit,” said Roads & Bridges Publisher Brandon Williamson. “We pride ourselves on the ability to fully report on events like this and keep our loyal readers informed.”
The awards were announced on May 10 at the National Azbee Awards of Excellence banquet, held in conjunction with GenerationB2B, the 2019 ASBPE National Conference at the St. Petersburg, Flordia-based Poynter Institute. One of the most competitive award programs for trade media, the Azbees highlight editorial, online and design excellence in magazines, newsletters and digital media. For the 2019 awards, ASBPE reported receiving more than 1,000 entries across 68 categories.
ASBPE’s Azbee Awards of Excellence honor the best in business-to-business (B2B) media, recognizing outstanding work by B2B, trade association, and professional publications. In April, Scranton Gillette Communications/SGC Horizon—the company that publishes Roads & Bridges—won a total of 16 Upper Midwest Region Azbee Awards across multiple brands. Roads & Bridges earned a Gold Upper Midwest Region Azbee in the Print - Special Section category, and a Bronze for its Online - Enewsletter for its FIU bridge collapse coverage. In the Online - Podcast category, Roads & Bridges won a Silver Upper Midwest Region Azbee for its Infrastructure Insider submission, “Revitalizing East Chicago, Indiana, with a Bridge.”
The brand’s coverage of the FIU bridge collapse earned the brand additional honors recently. The Roads & Bridges’ Editorial team, including Brian W. Budzynski, Managing Editor and Tim Bruns, Associate Editor, earned the prestigious Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Subject-Related Package in an awards ceremony sponsored by Connectiv held in New York City in April.
