Feb. 8, 2017

The roadway safety association will be featuring several info session and workshops at the upcoming Traffic Expo on Feb. 10-14

The American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) has received $2.5 million in funding from the Federal Highway Administration’s Work Zone Safety Grant Program. This grant includes opportunities for more than 300 work-zone safety training courses to be held in classrooms across the U.S. over the next five years. Previous federal training grants were awarded to ATSSA in 2006, 2011 and 2013.

As a result of such grants, the association is able to offer courses in the fields of:

  • Traffic Control Technician;
  • Traffic Control Supervisor;
  • Flagger Instructor Training;
  • Traffic Control Design Specialist;
  • Designing Temporary Traffic Control Zones for Pedestrian Accessibility;
  • Developing and Implementing Successful Transportation Management Plans;
  • Maintenance and Short Duration Activities;
  • Minimizing Worker Exposure in Highway Work Zones Through the Use of Positive Protection and Other Strategies;
  • Smarter Work Zone Intelligent Transportation Systems;
  • Urban Work Zone Design;
  • Work Zone Data Collection;
  • Work Zone Road Safety Audits;
  • Work Zone Strategies; and
  • Work Zone Traffic Impact Analysis.

The courses are offered throughout the U.S. at no cost to public transportation agency employees, including state departments of transportation and local transportation municipalities. Private entities, such as contractors and engineering firms, are assessed only a modest fee for each student trained.
