TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT: Transportation coming back in Northeast after historic blizzard

Transportation authorities across the Northeast began lifting travel bans on Monday as the region worked to dig itself out of a record-breaking snowstorm over the weekend. Officials are keeping an eye on the situation in New York and Connecticut, however, as both states were expected to see freezing rain and flooding on Monday.

In Boston, the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) resumed service for all subways and for key bus routes Sunday afternoon after the massive blizzard dumped 3 ft of snow across New England. Commuter rail service stayed shut down while tracks were being cleared. Amtrak also restored partial service between Boston and New York.

MBTA expected to resume full public transportation services on Monday but expected significant delays as well.  

In the New York area, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) had restored service on most lines by Sunday morning with the exception of areas east of Ronkonkoma, Babylon and Huntington. LIRR also warned commuters to expect significant delays on Monday.
