UTA rolls out new rapid transit system in Utah County nine months early

Twenty-five new UTA buses will be hitting the roads around the cities of Provo and Orem

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is getting ready to roll out a new rapid transit system in Utah County, nine months ahead of schedule.

Twenty-five new UTA buses will be hitting the roads around the cities of Provo and Orem. The buses are 60 ft long, expanded from the usual 40-ft UTA buses, and also bend in the middle to improve maneuvering.

The large buses will be free for locals to ride for the next three years, thanks to a Federal Highway Administration grant. UTA officials had them ready to go and decided to put them into operation for students heading back to Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University.

However, not all of the shelters and platforms designed for these buses have been completed, but they are scheduled to be done by the end of the year. Until then, riders will access the buses using the regular platforms currently in place.
