I-35 between East Riverside Drive and E. Dean Keeton Street (Austin, Texas)

They do it bigger in Texas, as the saying goes, and in terms of congestion, at least one Texas city’s doing it huge. While Houston and Dallas certainly have their fair share of locked-up highways, the relatively mid-size city of Austin takes the traffic taco. It breaks down like this: 3 miles causing 3 million hours of annual delay—yup, 1 million dead hours per mile—at a relative cost of $73 million time-dollars and the waste of $1.77 million gallons of gas. Even in oil country, that’s a darn shame.
