The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) has announced the two companies that will be responsible for a design/build intelligent transportation systems (ITS) project along the Frederick E Everett Turnpike (Central New Hampshire Turnpike).
Tilson, a Portland, Maine-based information technology professional services and network deployment company, has been awarded a US$4.2m contract for the ITS deployment. Tilson’s strategic partner on the project will be MobilityTech, a Massachusetts-based management consultancy providing services to public and private ITS, transportation engineering and construction organizations.
The Everett Turnpike project includes the design, planning, and installation of dynamic message signs, closed-circuit video cameras, roadway detectors, and wireless communications systems linking the ITS components to NHDOT’s Transportation Management Center.
These systems streamline incident response and management, improve safety in work zones, facilitate greater fuel efficiency for road users, and create ‘smart roads’ that could potentially guide future autonomous vehicles.
The project makes use of the unique qualifications and experience of all the organizations involved: Tilson’s expertise in fiber optics, radio-frequency engineering and wireless network construction, and construction management; MobilityTech’s expertise in planning, designing, implementing, and operating transportation technology projects; and the IBI Group’s deep ITS and systems engineering experience.
