The Maine Department of Transportation will be installing new traffic cameras on a short stretch of I-295 in advance of spring construction, according to the Portland Press Herald. The public will be able to view camera feeds on MDOT’s website.

The live streams will help both drivers and work crews during construction, which will focus on bridge and overpass repair and maintenance work. MDOT will know the best times to move equipment around while keeping the highway fairly clear for emergency vehicles. Drivers will also be able to plan commutes, evaluating if alternate routes will be necessary.

The cameras are being installed now but will not be functional until work begins in April; they will be removed when the project is completed, likely in early fall.
