Uber will expand its advanced technologies center in Pittsburgh to further research and develop autonomous vehicle technology
Ride-sharing firm Uber said it will add to its advanced technologies center in Pittsburgh with a second facility to increase research and development of self-driving and other vehicle technology.
"Self-driving technology has the potential to drastically cut down on accidents and congestion while making transportation even more affordable and convenient for everyone," said Uber's John Bares.
The advanced technology center is a partnership with Carnegie Mellon University focuses on autonomous vehicle technology in addition to mapping and safety-related technology.
Uber will break ground on the project in the coming months. The company said it is working with local leaders to finalize the project’s details and will work with them to develop roadways on the site.
