Women-focused ride-sharing service to launch in Orlando

Sept. 17, 2019

A new women-focused ride-sharing app called Safr will be available in downtown Orlando for customers who download the company's app, Ride Safr.

Created "for the safety and empowerment of women" in mind, initial service from the ride-sharing provider will be in Orlando's urban core—including at the University of Central Florida (UCF)/Valencia College Downtown Campus, the city's sports, arts, and entertainment venues, and its many restaurants and bars.

According to a press release from the company, Safr was built with the needs of women in mind and aims to improve the lives of women everywhere through safe transportation, job creation, and financial security—particularly in light of recent sexual assault allegations against drivers of other ride-sharing companies.

The company says that Safr drivers are personally vetted and undergo comprehensive background checks in criminal and motor vehicle history, in an effort to provide Safr riders with peace of mind. Safr’s in-ride security features make sure their riders arrive at their destination safely, or immediate assistance will be on the way. Safr says their drivers are also paid more than the industry standard and are incentivized to provide best in-class service to customers.

To kick things off, Safr will be at the new UCF/Valencia Downtown Campus on Oct. 1 and 3, with information and giveaways for students. Safr will also host a press conference on Oct. 2 in the City Hall Commons area, where company representatives will brief reporters about the Safr launch, walk them through how to use the app, and introduce some of their drivers.
