The Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District (GPCID) today announced the roundabout at Venture Drive and Day Drive in Gwinnett County, Georgia is now operational.
The GPCID said construction on this and the Venture Drive/Steve Reynolds intersection improvement project will continue through Fall 2020. The roundabout was created in partnership with the Gwinnett County DOT and the State Road and Tollway Authority.
"We are excited that the roundabout is ready for drivers and are already seeing it help alleviate traffic in the area," GPCID Executive Director Joe Allen said in a statement. "We've seen a great deal of success with other roundabouts in the county and around the nation. We expect to see similar results here in Gwinnett Place."
GPCID says roundabouts have been proven to be safer and more efficient than other types of intersection designs. According to FHWA research, roundabouts provide a 35% reduction in all crashes, 76% reduction in injuries, and more than 90% reduction in fatalities. Roundabouts also are safer for cyclists and pedestrians when crossing traffic.
GPCID also created an informative video to showcase how to properly use the Venture Drive at Day Drive roundabout.
The roundabout is one of three projects planned by GPCID to help alleviate traffic on Venture Drive. The Gwinnett Place Drive/Pleasant Hill Road intersection improvement project was completed in 2017. The second project is Venture Drive at Steve Reynolds Boulevard Intersection Improvement Project.
The three projects are funded by Gwinnett County SPLOST, GPCID and the State Road and Tollway Authority. Ohmshiv Construction is contracted to complete the project this fall.
